New appointment for Scott Winship

Northrop Grumman Corporation has appointed Scott Winship to the position of vice president and program manager for its Integrated Systems (IS) sector's U.S. Navy Unmanned Combat Air System (N-UCAS).

"This appointment reflects the critical importance of the current UCAS Carrier Demonstration (UCAS-D) contract and the tremendous growth opportunities associated with the broader N-UCAS acquisition program," said Gene Fraser, vice president and deputy of Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems Western Region and Unmanned Systems. "Scott Winship brings critical UCAS programme management skills and technical expertise that will directly contribute to the success of the overall Navy UCAS program."

With a projected initial operational capability in 2025, Navy UCAS is envisioned as the strike fighter recapitalization platform for heavily defended and denied access targets in maritime, littoral and over-land environments. The UCAS-D programme is the essential first step toward fielding an operational global persistent surveillance-attack system. The U.S. Navy is currently developing its acquisition strategy for a potential follow-on major defence acquisition programme.

Winship has over 20 years of experience in the aerospace industry. He joined Northrop Grumman in 2002 as the RQ-8A Fire Scout programme manager, leading the Fire Scout team to first flight before being appointed to the UCAS Programme. Prior to joining Northrop Grumman, he worked on a series of critical programmes at Lockheed Martin Skunk Works. Winship earned a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from San Diego State University.
