Northrop Grumman has submitted its proposal for the UK’s Watchkeeper battlefield imagery and intelligence programme.
“Our Watchkeeper solution will provide the UK with a flexible, robust and highly capable system for handling critical battlefield intelligence requirements well into the future,” said Scott Seymour, president of Northrop Grumman’s Integrated Systems Sector.
“It will also capitalise on our demonstrated experience and success fielding UAVs in a network-enabled environment.” The solution offers a combination of UAVs – the fixed-wing Ranger system and the VTOL Fire Scout.
The solution features an open, service-based architecture that can respond to new operational requirements, said Northrop, throughout the system’s predicted 30-year life. If chosen, Northrop would base its Watchkeeper programme management team in the UK. The team includes General Dynamics UK Ltd, BAE Systems, Ultra Electronics, Detica, STASYS, HVR Consulting, QinetiQ and RUAG Aerospace.
